Singapore Airlines (SQ, Singapore Changi) has announced in a press release that it will take over the Singapore Changi-Busan route from its regional full-service subsidiary SilkAir (SLK, Singapore Changi) as of October 28, 2019, just half a year after the route was launched.
"Demand for SilkAir's Busan flights since the launch of the route on 1 May 2019 has been very encouraging, and it has proven to be another popular gateway into South Korea, complementing SIA’s services to Seoul Incheon," Senior Vice President (Marketing Planning) Tan Kai Ping said.
Singapore Airlines will operate the route with A330-300s, providing 76% more capacity than SilkAir, which uses B737-800s. Flights will continue to operate 4x weekly.
Korean LCC Jeju Air (7C, Jeju) also operates the route 4x weekly using B737-800s.
The Singapore-Seoul route is served by Singapore Airlines (21x weekly using A350-900s and B787-10s), Korean Air (18x weekly using B777-300s, B777-300(ER)s, and A330-300s), Asiana Airlines (10x weekly using a mix of widebody aircraft), and Scoot (3x weekly using B787-9s via Taipei Taoyuan).
