Thai Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob has suggested that the government is contemplating replacing the board of loss-making flag carrier Thai Airways International (TG, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi), the English-language daily the Bangkok Post has reported.

Saksayam pointed out that the apparent underperformance of the current board, headed by Chairman Ekniti Nitithanprapas, was a sufficient reason for replacement.

Ekniti assumed the chairmanship of Thai Airways in mid-2018. From June 2018 to June 2019, the carrier lost THB13.5 billion baht (USD440 million), increasing its accumulated losses to THB245.1 billion (USD8 billion).

Saksayam added that other state-owned enterprises under his control may also be up for reshuffles, with another heavy lossmaker, Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA), set to be first to get a new board.
