Volotea (V7, Barcelona El Prat) said in an Italian press release that it will launch a base at Naples Capodichino in April 2020, initially stationing two A319-100s out of the airport.

The carrier said that it will also launch a new route from the Italian city, to Alicante, operating 2x weekly from April 2020.

"We are happy to open a base in Naples, Volotea's first airport in Italy and second in our network in terms of the number of seats available. Thanks to the new base, Campania passengers will be able to fly even more conveniently. In Naples, we will use Airbus A319 aircraft that will allow us to offer, over the next year, more than one million seats to the local market," President and Founder Carlos Muñoz said.

According to the ch-aviation capacities module, with 71 weekly scheduled departures and 9,495 weekly departing seats, Volotea is already the third-largest carrier in Naples. The LCC has a 7% market share by capacity, trailing behind easyJet (London Luton) and Ryanair (FR, Dublin International).

Naples is also Volotea's second-largest airport despite not being a base. 6.3% of all carrier's seats on sale are out of the Italian facility.

Naples will become Volotea's sixth base in Italy after Cagliari, Genoa, Palermo International, Verona, and Venice Marco Polo.
