CargoLogicAir (P3, London Stansted) is evaluating adding freighter types other than B747s due to the tight second-hand market for the Boeing quadjets, the British cargo specialist said in a financial release distributed to industry media.

"The airline is actively working with partners to mitigate [the problems arising from a constrained market for B747s] and may also assess the merits of other aircraft types in future," it said.

According to the ch-aviation fleets module, CargoLogicAir, a British subsidiary of Volga-Dnepr Airlines (VI, Ulyanovsk Vostochny), currently operates three B747-400(F)s and one B747-8(F).

The airline also revealed it lost GBP18 million pounds (USD23 million) in 2018, over seven times more than in 2017.

"The growth in CargoLogicAir’s fleet has led to significant increases in block hour production and aircraft utilisation. While costs have also increased on the back of the rapid growth in operations, this presents an opportunity for greater efficiency in the future," it added.

CargoLogicAir defended its fleet make-up based on the B747, saying that the quadjets can cater to a wider range of cargo customers than other types.
