Spirit Airlines (NK, Fort Lauderdale International) has announced in a press release that it will invest USD250 million into a new headquarters in Dania Beach, FL, in the vicinity of Fort Lauderdale International airport.

Spirit said it has entered into an agreement with Kimco Realty, the owner and principal developer of Dania Pointe, to secure the land. Gensler will be the lead architectural firm while Jones Lang LaSalle has been selected as project advisor.

The new 500,000-square-feet (46,450-square-metre) HQ is scheduled to open in 2022. At that time, around 1,000 Spirit employees will move from its existing corporate offices in Miramar, FL. An estimated 225 new jobs will also be created.

The development will include corporate offices and a new crew training facility with flight simulators. The new HQ's location will also allow for quicker access to Fort Lauderdale airport, Spirit's largest base.
