Sun Country Airlines (SY, Minneapolis St. Paul International) has announced its largest-ever network expansion, as the carrier looks to commence 12 new routes from May 2020.

Benefitting significantly from Sun Country's plans is its biggest base Minneapolis St. Paul International, which currently commands 41% of its weekly capacity, according to the ch-aviation capacities module. From here, the airline will start links to four new destinations, Baltimore International, Bozeman, Cleveland Hopkins, and Portland International Jetport, all with 2x weekly flights. All four of these airports are also new to the carrier's network.

However, the airport to extract the most new routes is Madison, WI which will welcome five new routes and 10x weekly flights spread equally across Nashville International, Boston, New York Newark, Portland International and Seattle Tacoma International.

Rounding off the spring growth are three new international connections from Dallas/Fort Worth to Guanacaste, Puerto Vallarta and San José Cabo, however, these sectors are pending government approval.

“We are excited to expand our seasonal summer routes in these key markets, and to expand our network into new airports,” said Sun Country Airlines Chief Executive Officer Jude Bricker. “Over the past year we’ve grown and made incredible improvements – we’ve improved our inflight experience, upgraded our technology and are carrying more passengers than ever before in the history of the airline. Today’s announcement will allow us to connect even more guests to their favorite people, places and memories.”

With this network expansion, Sun Country operates a total of 91 routes across 55 airports and has grown its network by nearly 72%, announcing 46 new markets in 2019 alone.
