Bamboo Airways (QH, Hanoi Noi Bai International) has taken delivery of three new aircraft, introducing two new types to its fleet - one A320-200neo and two B787-9s, the privately-owned full-service airline said in press releases. It also took its first A321-200, Skyliner Aviation has reported.

The Vietnamese carrier formally accepted the delivery of the two widebody Boeing jets on October 22, 2019. They will both be dry-leased from GECAS and are the first two of thirty B787-9s which Bamboo Airways ordered. The carrier expects to start the type's operations later this month.

"Currently, the core personnel have been trained and fully equipped with relevant knowledge and certificates to master their control of the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. Technical stages are being finalized to be soon submitted to the competent authorities for verification after receiving the aircraft, in accordance with the regulations of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, ICAO, Europe, and the US authorities," Deputy General Director of Bamboo Airways Nguyen Ngoc Trong said.

The carrier has ten B787-9s on firm order directly from Boeing, with the remainder due to come from lessors' order books.

Bamboo Airways has yet to schedule B787-9 flights. It previously touted using its maiden widebodies to launch services to, among others, the United States.

Just a few days after accepting the delivery of the two B787-9s, Bamboo Airways also took it first A320neo in the form of VN-A596 (msn 9306). Sporting a distinctive livery promoting eco-awareness, the brand new narrowbody was ferried from Toulouse Blagnac via Baku Heydar Aliev International to Ho Chi Minh City over the course of October 30-31, 2019, and has started revenue operations on domestic routes on November 2, Flightradar24 ADS-B data shows.

The carrier's first A321-200 is the only second-hand aircraft to be added in the recent days. VN-A597 (msn 5271), an ex-SmartLynx Airlines unit, was ferried from Kaunas International via Ashgabat to Hanoi Noi Bai International over the course of October 31-November 1. It has yet to commence operations for the carrier.

Bamboo Airways is also preparing to take delivery of a second A321-200, msn 5044. The ex-Aeroflot aircraft will become VN-A585 and is currently undergoing pre-delivery maintenance at Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta airport.
