Volidisicilia (Palermo International) will add another domestic call to its Sicilian network in 2020, with weekly seasonal flights to Brindisi, a new Italian destination for the regional carrier.
Active between June 27 and September 5, the Italian division of Danish airline DAT (Denmark) (DX, Kolding) will operate the Saturdays-only service from Catania and Palermo International to the mainland. In the recent Summer 2019 season, the regional airline flew 28x weekly from its Palermo base to Lampedusa, as well as 14x weekly to Pantelleria. From Catania, the airline offered a 2x weekly rotation to Olbia, 4x weekly to Pantelleria and 14x weekly to Lampedusa. It also operated from a third Sicilian airport, Trapani, with a 2x daily service again to nearby Pantelleria.
As a further expansion to the island's network in 2020, the route between Catania and Olbia will also be increased to 3x weekly during the peak months of July and August.
DAT set-up its Italian arm in the summer of 2018 after it secured a three-year Public Service Obligation contract to operate the Sicilian routes, previously served by Mistral Air (Rome Fiumicino).
Volidisicilia's regular fleet includes three ATR72-200s operated by DAT LT (R6, Kaunas International), namely OY-LHB (msn 496), OY-RUB (msn 301), and OY-RUG (msn 509). These aircraft were joined briefly by ATR42-300 OY-CIU (msn 112) during the peak summer months as a back-up unit for the Sicilian fleet.
