Eastern Airlines has announced it will launch scheduled flights from New York JFK to Guayaquil in Ecuador on January 13, 2020, a month beyond the original schedule.

The airline initially planned to debut the route on December 5, 2019. Flights will initially operate 1x weekly using B767-300(ER) aircraft. The carrier's permission to launch the route from the US Department of Transportation (DOT) expires on January 15, 2020.

The New York JFK-Guayaquil route is currently served daily by JetBlue Airways (B6, New York JFK) with A321-200s and daily by LATAM Airlines Ecuador (XL, Quito International) with B767-300(ER)s, the ch-aviation schedules module shows.

Eastern Airlines plans to launch flights to Georgetown Cheddi Jagan as its second destination but has yet to announce the launch date or the schedule.

According to the ch-aviation fleets module, the airline currently operates one B767-200, three -200(ER)s, five -300(ER)s, and one B777-200(ER). Of these, only the B767-200, one -200(ER), and two -300(ER)s have been active recently.
