Widerøe (WF, Bodø) will switch from London Stansted to London Southend with effect from the Summer 2020 season, according to a press release from the airline.

Currently linking Kristiansand with Stansted 3x weekly with its fleet of 10 Dash 8-400s, the 473-nautical mile (877-kilometre) sector to Southend will be flown daily during the peak season.

Speaking during the Airport Operators Association (AOA) Annual Awards in London, Widerøe Commercial Director Christian Skaug said: "We believe that our customers, who are used to smaller, convenient and efficient airports, will appreciate a more efficient airport. Better travel experience, with fewer queues and shorter distances."

Southend will be served by easyJet, Ryanair, Wizz Air UK, flybe. (2002), Loganair, FlyOne and now Widerøe this summer. The airport has in the past been successful in attracting airlines from competing airports, with Loganair switching its Londonderry City of Derry service from Stansted, and the now-defunct SkyWork Airlines (Bern) moving its Bern to London City route to Southend in 2014.
