LATAM Airlines Group has announced that it has brought forward its departure from Oneworld to May 1, 2020, having originally agreed to leave the global alliance on October 1, 2020. Up to April 30, 2020, there will be no change to the reciprocal benefits offered on all Oneworld flights, the South American carrier group said in a statement.

Despite its departure from the airline alliance, LATAM Airlines Group will maintain bilateral agreements with British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, JAL - Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, Qatar Airways, Royal Jordanian, S7 Airlines, and SriLankan Airlines. With its departure from Oneworld, the airline group will end its frequent flyer and reciprocal lounge access agreements with American Airlines.

LATAM also used its press statement to provide a further update on its framework agreement with Delta Air Lines, which completed the acquisition of a 20% stake in the holding in early January. The South American carrier will relocate its operations at New York JFK from Terminal 8 to Terminal 4, where Delta serves over 90 domestic and international destinations.

Authorities in the US and Colombia have granted regulatory approval to proposed codeshares between Delta and LATAM Airlines Perú, LATAM Airlines Colombia, and LATAM Airlines Ecuador. LATAM’s affiliates in Brazil and Chile - LATAM Airlines Brasil and LATAM Airlines - also plan to establish codeshare agreements with Delta during 2020.

The region is undergoing a period of change in terms of business relationships, as Delta's former partner in Brazil, GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes (G3, São Paulo Congonhas), has announced a widely-expected codeshare agreement with American Airlines, subject to regulatory approval.
