CargoLogicAir (P3, London Stansted) has suspended operations after a UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) audit resulted in a level one rating, signifying substantial safety shortcomings, Air Cargo News has reported citing sources familiar with developments.

The CAA said that CargoLogicAir still had a valid Air Operator's Certificate (AOC), although a level one finding does not automatically translate to the withdrawal or suspension of the AOC. It is issued when an airline's compliance with EASA rules falls to a level endangering flight safety.

CargoForwarder added that the suspension of flight operations is seen as a first step towards the liquidation of the UK carrier among whose investors is Volga-Dnepr Group, a Russian freight specialist who is itself in the midst of restructuring.

The carrier said in late 2019 that it would halve its fleet - which, at that time, consisted of four B747 freighters - in response to challenging market conditions. Its two remaining B747-400(F)s have not been active for weeks. G-CLAA (msn 33749) last flew on February 9, 2020, while G-CLBA (msn 32870) has been inactive since February 2. The aircraft are currently parked at Dubai World Central and Leipzig/Halle, respectively, Flightradar24 ADS-B data shows.

CargoLogicAir did not respond to a ch-aviation request for comment.
