airBaltic (BT, Riga) will not return its B737-300s or Dash 8-400s to service once the COVID-19 pandemic ends, Chief Executive Martin Gauss told Latvian state-owned news agency LETA.
"In any case, we wanted to transition our fleet to the A220 only. This year and possibly next year, we also planned to use the B737-300s, but now their operations have been suspended and they will no longer be used on regular flights," Gauss said, adding that similar fate awaits the De Havilland Aircraft of Canada turboprops.
According to the ch-aviation fleets module, the Latvian airline operates four B737-300s and twelve Dash 8-400s. It also has twenty-two A220-300s and a further twenty-eight of these jets on firm order from Airbus Canada.
airBaltic suspended all operations through at least April 14, 2020, due to government-imposed travel restrictions in Latvia. The airline currently operates cargo charters with its A220s.
