Qeshm Airlines (QB, Tehran Mehrabad) has stated that it intends to construct a 16,000 square metre MRO hangar at Tehran Imam Khomeini - as the facility looks to grow its airport city concept further.

Speaking to Fars News earlier this year at the groundbreaking event, Reza Heydari, Chief Executive Officer of the airline said: "We are planning to develop this company, and in this regard, we will start the project of building an aircraft maintenance hangar... at Imam Khomeini Airport."

The rationale for the development appears clear, as according to airport traffic statistics, Qeshm is ranked third among domestic airlines in terms of passenger figures at Imam Khomeini. Heydari added: "Considering the expansion of Qeshm Air's activities at this airport, the construction of a hangar is on the agenda."

The carrier plans to invest IRR1,500 billion rial (USD35.7 million) to build the hangar with a span of 77 metres along with associated repair workshops. It is hoped that the facility will create 300 jobs during the construction period and will employ 150 people once the hangar is operational.

According to the ch-aviation fleets module, the carrier operates a mixed fleet of eighteen aircraft, consisting of five A300-600s, three A320-200s, five ARJ-100s, one ARJ-85, and two Fokker 100s. Given the current COVID-19 restrictions on travel, only six of these aircraft are active at this time according to Flightradar24 ADS-B data.
