Lion Air Group's Indonesian subsidiaries, namely Lion Air (JT, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta), Batik Air (ID, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta), and Wings Air (Indonesia) (IW, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta), suspended all operations on June 5, 2020, until further notice, as passengers continue to have difficulties complying with stringent formal requirements for travel.

"Lion Air Group's decision was based on considerations from an evaluation of previous flight operations, that many prospective passengers were unable to carry out air travel because they did not complete the required documents and conditions during the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic alert period," the group said in a statement.

While domestic travel in Indonesia is, in general, permitted, passengers need to fulfil a number of formal requirements before they are allowed to board, including documenting a recent health checkup and presenting paperwork confirming their need to travel.

Lion Air Group's units resumed domestic operations in the country in early May but halted them on May 27 until the end of May as multiple passengers had to be denied boarding for formal reasons. The airlines then resumed flights in early June before deciding to suspend them indefinitely as the situation had not improved.
