American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) has agreed with Mesa Airlines (YV, Phoenix Sky Harbor) to remove two CRJ900s from its Capacity Purchase Agreement (CPA) with the regional airline.

"The amendments to the American CPA include... the permanent withdrawal of two aircraft from the American CPA, effective June 15, 2020, with such aircraft included in the tranche of aircraft American has the right to ratably remove commencing January 1, 2021," Mesa Air Group said in a stock market filing.

In addition, the two airlines agreed to add a system of utilisation-based credits to their accounting for the period April 1-September 30, 2020, "based upon the achievement of agreed-upon aircraft utilization thresholds".

According to the ch-aviation fleets module, Mesa Airlines currently operates all 64 of its CRJ900s on behalf of American Airlines under the American Eagle brand. However, following an agreement in early April 2020, as of end-June the CPA will only cover 56 aircraft, with the remainder used as spares.

Mesa Airlines owns 48 of the CRJ900s, with the remaining 16 dry-leased from Bombardier Services (15) and Aviator Capital (one).
