WestJet (WS, Calgary) has announced it will restructure its internal operations and processes, with plans to outsource all airport operations outside of its four main hubs Toronto Pearson, Calgary, Vancouver International, and Edmonton International.

The changes also include the consolidation of the airline's call centre operations in Alberta and the restructuring of its office staff. In total, 3,333 employees will be affected.

"As WestJet works to select new airport service partners, the airline will seek out preferential employment opportunities for as many of the airport roles as possible," the Canadian carrier said.

The airline reaffirmed that together with its regional subsidiary WestJet Encore (WR, Calgary), it has continued to serve all 38 pre-COVID destinations in Canada throughout the peak of the pandemic, and that it intends to continue flying to all of them despite the restructuring.
