Jet2 (United Kingdom) (LS, Leeds/Bradford) has extended the suspension of all its routes from its departure airports in Scotland, Glasgow International and Edinburgh, to Spain through July 25 after the Scottish government refused to add Spain to the list of destinations approved for quarantine-free travel.

The leisure specialist planned to restart services from the two Scottish airports to Spain on July 15, when it relaunches all operations.

"Because of the travel restrictions that are still in place to Spain as a result of this week's announcement by the Scottish Government, we have taken the decision to recommence our flights and holidays programmes from Edinburgh and Glasgow Airports to Mainland Spain, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands on July 25," the airline said in a statement.

While the British government included Spain in the list of destinations exempted from quarantine, testing, and other COVID-related restrictions, the Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said that she was not able to "in clear conscience" do likewise due to the number of cases in Spain and, using the power devolved to the Scottish government, extended the 14-day quarantine requirement for all passengers arriving or returning from Spain.

Scotland will review its border regulations on July 20. Sturgeon said she hoped that the government would then be able to add Spain and Serbia, another country exempted from quarantine in England but not in Scotland, to the list.

Jet2's flights to Portugal, including Funchal, and to Cyprus remain suspended through August 1, 2020.
