Green Airlines (Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden) has selected Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden as its first base for operations projected to launch on October 31, 2020.

The virtual start-up carrier said via its website that in the initial phase of operations, it would connect Karlsruhe with Hamburg Helmut Schmidt and Berlin Brandenburg International using an ATR72-500 chartered from Denmark's Air Alsie (6I, Sønderborg). Going forward, it is eyeing a second base at Paderborn/Lippstadt.

"In our search for other regional airports that fit our concept of environmental protection and sustainability, we found what we were looking for. We are in talks with Paderborn Lippstadt Airport about future cooperation. The airport's ÖKOPROFIT certification and the companies in the area have made us curious," the airline said.

Green Airlines said that potential future destinations could include Vienna, Zurich, Dresden, Rostock, Friedrichshafen, and Westerland.

Green Airlines is one of two virtual start-ups eyeing a 2020 launch whose flights are to be operated by Air Alsie, the other being Lübeck Air (Hamburg Luebeck).
