Aeroméxico (AM, México City International) has defaulted on interest payments for two debt issues, the Oaxaca-based financial group CI Banco said in a statement to the Mexican stock exchange on July 16.

The default, corresponding to the company's 00120 and 01219 issuances on the debt securities market, was for a total amount of MXN3,042,309 pesos (USD135,300), the statement said.

Non-compliance with a certificate with the code 00120 meant a default of exactly MXN1,734,055.56 (USD77,060), and for certificate 01219 the breach was for MXN1,308,253.33 (USD58,180).

The flag carrier, which initiated Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings in the United States on June 30, also asked CI Banco, its financial adviser, on July 16 to call a meeting to present its restructuring plans to bondholders on July 20.

When it filed for bankruptcy, Aeroméxico said that it was in talks to secure debtor-in-possession (DIP) financing, which it claimed would provide it with sufficient liquidity to continue operations.
