Etihad Airways (EY, Abu Dhabi International) is cutting another 400 pilot jobs according to an internal memo sent to staff by Vice President (Flight operations), Sulaiman Yaqoobi.

In the message, seen by Arabian Aerospace, Yaqoobi said Etihad is "unable to sustain the current number of employees" it has given the current Covid-19 crisis that has significantly constrained demand at the United Arab Emirates flag carrier.

According to ch-aviation fleets data, Etihad currently operates most of its Boeing aircraft with only seven aircraft in its fleet of six B777-Fs, nineteen B777-300(ER)s, eight B787-10s, and thirty B787-9s not having operated at all in the last four days.

Its Airbus fleet is significantly more affected. Only one of nineteen A320-200s and two of ten A321-200s have been in active in the last four days. Its remaining three A330-200s, ten A380-800s, and the yet to be activated four A350-1000s remain parked in Abu Dhabi and Bordeaux Mérignac respectively.

Between March 26 and June 10, Etihad and other carriers in the country were only allowed to operate cargo and repatriation flights.

At the end of May, Reuters reported an earlier round of job cuts at Etihad wherein 1,200 staff were to be made redundant in addition to the "hundreds" who had been let go previously.
