Spanair (JK, Barcelona El Prat) and Continental Airlines (CO/Houston Intcl) are planning to start codesharing in spring offering connections between the United States and Spain. Continental currently operates daily B757-200 services from New York Newark to Barcelona and Madrid. Spanair is considering resuming own long-haul operations to Latin America in 2011. It would operate the services from Barcelona to destinations such as Bogota, Buenos Aires Ezeiza, Quito and Sao Paulo Guarulhos.

Star Airways (Albania) (4S, Tirana) is planning to start operations later this year with two A320-200s offering low-cost services from Tirana to destinations in Italy. It has also named Athens, Dusseldorf, Istanbul and Thessaloniki as other initial destinations. The carrier is backed by a group of Albanian and Italian investors and had previously made an unsuccessful bid to acquire bankrupt Italian low-cost carrier MyAir.

Tafa Air (Tirana) had announced plans to operate daily low-cost services from Tirana via Pristina to Dortmund, Friedrichshafen and Neubrandenburg as of December 1. TAP Portugal (TP, Lisbon) has announced plans to launch a new three times weekly A330-200 service from Lisbon to Campinas Viracopos north of Sao Paulo but has not yet finalized schedules and a launch date. It would be the first international carrier serving the airport. It will terminate its daily Porto-London Heathrow on March 27 but will continue to offer two daily A320-200 services from Porto to London Gatwick.
