flybe. (BE, Exeter) has announced that it plans to establish bases in Aberdeen and Newcastle in the medium term and is actively looking at airline acquisitions. It will launch weekly seasonal EMB-195 service from Manchester to Friedrichshafen on December 21. Flybe. will give up its services between Exeter and Inverness on October 24 and replace its Exeter-Aberdeen non-stop services with a five times weekly Exeter-Leeds/Bradford-Exeter Dash 8-400 flight. It has already given up its Glasgow Intl-Newquay route on August 2.

Virgin Atlantic (VS, London Heathrow) has announced massive opposition to a proposed alliance between British Airways (BA/London Heathrow) and American Airlines (AA/Dallas/Fort Worth). Its chairman Richard Branson also declared his interest in a possible bid as part of an airline consortium to take over London Gatwick airport that has been put up for sale by BAA.
