Armavia (U8, Yerevan) has leased a second ex-Independence Air A319-100 to its fleet and is planning to add two more A320 family aircraft later this year to replace the two aircraft the carrier lost in a fatal accident in Russia and due to a hangar fire in Brussels last month.

Aeroflot (SU, Moscow Sheremetyevo) will lease three additional ex-KLM (KL/Amsterdam) B767-300ERs. It is expected to start codesharing with Pulkovo Aviation Enterprise (FV/St. Petersburg) on various European routes out of St. Petersburg. Aeroflot has confirmed an order for 30 RRJs. In other news, Aeroflot will resume twice weekly B767-300ER service from Moscow Sheremetyevo to Hanoi on July 3.

Excel Airways (JN, London Gatwick) is planning to set-up a subsidiary in Ireland that will start charter operations in May 2007 with a single B737-800. Excel has leased an additional ex-Ajet (ZU/Larnaca) B737-800 and has wet-leased a MD-83 from Nordic Airways (NRD/Stockholm Arlanda).

Ryanair (FR, Dublin Int'l) has announced Marseilles as its first French base and will use two B737-800s to launch new routes to the following destinations as of November 8: Brussels Charleroi: 3x weekly Eindhoven: daily Fez: 3x weekly Frankfurt Hahn: 4x weekly Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden: 3x weekly London Stansted: daily Marrakech: 4x weekly Oslo Torp: 3x weekly Oujda: 4x weekly Porto: 4x weekly Rome Ciampino: daily Ryanair has also launched a daily B737-800 service from Dublin to Berlin Schönefeld.

UM Air News Update

UM Air (UKM, Kiev Boryspil) has added two additional ex-Transmeridian Airlines MD-83s and an ex-NPP MIR Aviakompania (NPP/St. Petersburg) Tu-134 to its fleet. It will however return its single A320-200 to the lessor instead. It will launch twice weekly DC-9-50 service from Kharkov to Dusseldorf on June 23.

Air One CityLiner (CT, Rome Fiumicino) is the brand of the new Air One (AP/Rome Fiumicino) regional subsidiary that has taken delivery of the first two of six ordered CRJ-900s. Air One also has secured options for four additional CRJ-900 aircraft. It will use the aircraft on secondary domestic routes.

Aer Arann (RE, Dublin Int'l) has confirmed an expected order for 10 ATR 72-500s with deliveries starting next year. It has moved its services to Angers from Cork and Manchester to Nantes. Aer Arann will also launch four times weekly ATR 72-200 service from London Luton to Newquay on July 3. It will however give up its Isle of Man-Liverpool route on June 18.

GB Airways News Update

GB Airways (GT, London Gatwick) will launch three times weekly A320-200 services to Tenerife Sur from Bristol (on October 3) and Nottingham (on October 31). The British Airways (BA/London Heathrow) franchisee will operate both of these new routes as well as all services out of Manchester after September 1 using the BA Connect (TH/Manchester) brand and product.
