FedEx Express (FX, Memphis Int'l) is planning to retire all DC-10-10(F) and A310-300(F) freighters within the next two years in response to the global market slowdown, Chairman Fred Smith said during the quarterly earnings call.

"We will retire twenty MD-10-10 aircraft over the current and next fiscal year [i.e. by the end of May 2021], which will eliminate that fleet type from our air operations. We are highly likely to also retire the remaining 10 A310 aircraft this year, which will also lead to the elimination of that fleet type. In addition, we are...

/portal/stock/5392.jpg

Ryanair (FR, Dublin Int'l) has reached an agreement with the Portuguese airport authority (Aeroportos de Portugal - ANA) to hold onto its base at Faro airport after employees agreed to new seasonal contracts.

In August, the LCC announced the likely closure of the base in 2020, which prompted panic among the region's tourism authorities to ensure the airport maintained the routes operated by the airline.

Ryanair currently links Faro with 30 airports in the UK, Ireland, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland,...

As rules on the allocation of new slots at London Heathrow are reviewed by the UK government ahead of the eventual arrival of a third runway, Virgin Atlantic (VS, London Heathrow) has unveiled plans for 84 new destinations from the hub when the runway opens, which is expected by 2026.

The huge expansion of its network depends on how many additional slots it obtains, but chief executive Shai Weiss claimed in a statement that the airport had been dominated by British Airways (BA, London Heathrow)...

The grant, first publicly mentioned during the carrier's 30 year anniversary event, is to be paid in two parts including at least HRK100 million (USD15 million) in 2019 and the rest in 2020. It would stabilise the airline and prevent any damage from a number of negative...
