Air CEMAC (Brazzaville) is a new joint carrier proposed by the countries that form the Communauté économique et monétaire des Etats de l’Afrique centrale (CEMAC). Cameroon, the Centralafrican Republic, Chad, Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea and Gabon have agreed in principle to join forces and launch the new airline next year choosing Air France (AF, Paris CDG) as a strategic partner. The plan to set-up a joint airline had been in the works for over a decade but only seems to have come closer to reality now. It is unclear what this would mean for the national carriers of Cameroon and the Republic of Congo, Camair-Co (QC, Douala) and ECAIR - Equatorial Congo Airlines (EQR, Brazzaville), which both have only been set-up two years ago. The Centralafrican Republic, Chad, Equatorial Guinea and Gabon do not have a national carrier with international operations right now. The Air CEMAC plan still has to be approved by the presidents of its member countries.
