RAK Airways (Ras al Khaimah International) is in talks with Boeing (BOE, Washington National), Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) and Bombardier Aerospace (BBA, Montréal Trudeau) regarding an order for "at least 10 single-aisle aircraft" to meet expansion plans. Bloomberg reports that the Emirati carrier is looking at the existing versions of the B737-800, the A320 and the new CSeries jet with a decision likely due by the end of this year or early in 2014. Funding will likely come from an external source, according to CEO Murabit Al Sawaf, including bank loans, manufacturer financing and a bond issue, while a share sale is also under consideration. In the meantime, the company will wet lease an A319-100 due shortly, and an A320 due in two months time, from the International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC). RAK is seeking to carve out a niche in one of the world’s most competitive aviation markets, and despite having suspending scheduled operations during the global slump, it now plans to expand its network to 40 cities by 2015 with aim of becoming a regional force. Among the destinations to be added in 2013 include Amman Queen Alia, Islamabad International, Riyadh and Dammam. RAK Airways currently serves nine cities including Cairo International, Doha Hamad International, Kathmandu, Jeddah International and Chittagong using two A320-200s.
