TICOS - Líneas Aéreas de Costa Rica (San José Juan Santamaría) plans to launch operations later this year with flights to Los Angeles International, New York Newark, Miami International, Caracas Simón Bolivar and México City International. According to the airline's founder, Gino Renzi, the airline has submitted its documentation to the Costa Rican civil aviation authority (Dirección General de Aviación Civil - DGAC) for approval and is now hoping for a December 2013 maiden flight. With undisclosed foreign backers, the airline will initially operate five leased A319-100s before expanding to A330s and A340s. Once established, the airline also intends to offer flights to Europe, Asia and the rest of Latin America.
