Ghana Airways (Accra) is set to be resurrected under a planned new Public Private Partnership (PPP) in which government will own an initial 10% stake, Ghanaian Minister of Aviation, Dzifa Attivor, has revealed. Speaking to Ghana's CitiFM, Ms Attivor said that funding had been sourced from the World Bank and that Accra is currently waiting for the go ahead from the Bank to proceed to the next stage of the project. She added that government had not the funds to go the project alone and had sought the PPP vehicle as a means of getting the project off the ground. Regarding potential private partners, she said that thirteen companies had presented proposals, all of which had now been evaluated though the winning bid was still subject to World Bank approval. Founded in 1958, Ghana Airways had offered extensive connections between West, Central and East Africa with Europe and the United States. However, owing to mismanagement and mounting debts, the airline ceased operations in 2004 despite numerous partnership proposals from airlines such as Nationwide Airlines (Johannesburg O.R. Tambo), bmi british midland (Nottingham East Midlands), Arik Air (W3, Lagos) and Ethiopian Airlines (ET, Addis Ababa International).
