Fly Blue Crane (Johannesburg O.R. Tambo) is a proposed South African start-up established by Blue Crane Aviation, a specialist consultancy firm headed by former South African Airways (SA, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo) executives Siza Mzimela, Theunis Potgieter, and Jerome Simelane.
In its application to the South African Air Service Licensing Council, the start-up said it would focus on underserved regional routes as opposed to domestic operations.
Backed by 80% local capital, Fly Blue Crane will bring competition to the likes of Interair South Africa (Johannesburg O.R. Tambo), Gryphon Airlines SA (GRF, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo) and Global Aviation Operations (GE, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo) all of which primarily operate regional African services.
