Discovery Air (Lagos) is hoping to launch operations in June following the arrival of the start-up's second of three B737-300s in Lagos last week. Abdusalami Muhammed, Discovery Air's managing director, told Nigeria's BusinessDay that the arrival of the aircraft was significant in that it now allowed Discovery to push on with its certification by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.

“We hope by the end of the month everything will be completed and we will start operations immediately. We are more than ready. We are on track. As soon as all the necessary requirements are met, the Airline Operators Certificate (AOC) issued, we will begin operations, emphasise our mission of providing a Safe, Affordable, Fast and Efficient travel solution through excellent customer service delivery,” he said.

In contrast to fellow northern start-up, Azman Air (AZM, Kano), which began offering flights from Kano to Lagos and Abuja last week, Discovery intends to focus on the southern part of the country serving Port Harcourt Awolowo from Lagos and Abuja.
