Hawaiian Airlines (HA, Honolulu) is set to encounter new competition on its flights from Pago Pago, American Samoa, to the United States. The American Samoan governor's office says a group of investors have approached government with a view to establishing their own carrier which will initially offer twice weekly direct flights to the west coast of the United States.

Thereafter, the start-up intends to expand into the South Pacific with regional flights.

At present, the only Samoan and American Samoan operators offering inter island connectivity are Polynesian Airlines (Apia Fagali'i) and Inter Island Airways (Pago Pago).
