National Airlines (N8, Orlando Sanford) has expressed an interest in launching a seasonal service between New York and the Croatian city of Dubrovnik on the Adriatic coast next year. EX-YU Aviation News reports the bi-weekly flights would operate on-board National's fleet of B757-200s.

The US ambassador to Croatia, Kenneth Merten, has said his country is working on establishing flights to Croatia, adding that the foundations for such services are currently being put in place.

The recent collapse in the value of the Euro against the US Dollar is expected to render Europe a much more attractive destination this summer with Croatia hoping to benefit from increased US tourist arrivals. In any event, the case for the flights is growing as US tourists are now ranked fifth in terms of visits to the Dalmatian resort town, which last saw intercontinental services by way of Pan Am (1927) (New York JFK) charters back in the '80s.
