fastjet plc has announced it has deferred the planned launch of its newest subsidiary, Fastjet Zambia (Lusaka), until the end of the year pending a further review of its network.

Last year, the firm said fastjet Zambia's AOC application process had been delayed as a result of the Zambia Civil Aviation Authority (ZCAA) lacking Airbus-qualified personnel needed to assess its A319-100 - 9J-FJG (cn 2891). As a result, the launch date was pushed back to December of last year.

However, fastjet said in a statement this week that it has now elected to defer the application for an AOC until the fourth quarter of the year in order to better match capacity to demand across its network.

fastjet has been under considerable pressure from major shareholder and franchise owner, easyGroup, to improve its performance since announcing a profit warning in March.

It currently operates two carriers - Fastjet (Dar es Salaam) in Tanzania and Fastjet Zimbabwe (FN, Harare International).
