American selects Mesa for CRJ-900 operations; mulls 100-seat jets

American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) has selected Mesa Airlines (YV, Phoenix Sky Harbor) to operate seven new CRJ-900 NextGen aircraft for a 10-year term under the American Eagle brand.

Finnair (AY, Helsinki Vantaa) says its freight subsidiary, Finnair Cargo, has signed an agreement with the International Airlines Group (IAG) to participate in its IAG Cargo Partner Plus Program. Southwest Airlines (WN, Dallas Love Field) has filed a petition with a US federal court over a US Department of Transportation (DOT) letter that effectively allows Delta Air Lines (DL, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson) to remain at Dallas Love Field past July 6.

Alaska applies to transfer LAX-Mexico City route authority to AA

Alaska Airlines (AS, Seattle Tacoma Int'l) has applied to the US Department of Transportation (DOT) for permission to transfer its Los Angeles Int'l-México City route authority to American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth).

While it gave no reason for the request, Alaska said the transfer would allow it to "redeploy aircraft on other routes and enhance its competitive presence elsewhere."
