Three Chinese freight operators set to merge

Three of China's largest cargo carriers - China Cargo Airlines (CK, Shanghai Hongqiao), Air China Cargo (CAO, Beijing Capital), and the cargo division of China Southern Airlines (CZ, Guangzhou) - are to merge the deputy director of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has told the Xinhua news agency.

According to Zhou Laizhen, the resulting carrier will be Asia's largest air-freight transport company. He offered no possible timelines for the merger.

Atlas Air adds maiden B757 freighter

Atlas Air (5Y, New York JFK) has added a maiden narrowbody freighter to its fleet of twenty B747-400(F)s, nine B747-8(F)s, nine B767-200(F)s, and two B767-300(F)s.

China's Shanghai Airlines ends B757 operations

Shanghai Airlines (FM, Shanghai Hongqiao) has ended B757-200 operations with the type's last commercial flight operated on Saturday, March 21. Social media sources state B-2875 (msn 33966) operated the flight from Harbin to Shanghai Pudong following which all three remaining aircraft were put into storage.

Xiamen Airlines secures Taiwanese mail haulage deal

Xiamen Airlines (MF, Xiamen) has signed an agreement with Chunghwa Post, the official postal service of Taiwan, covering the transport of mail between Taipei Taoyuan and Fuzhou and Xiamen in Fujian Province. The agreement, which went into effect on April 1, mirrors a similar agreement signed with China Postal Airlines (CF, Tianjin) in 2010 in which the carriers agreed to share their Taiwanese mail transport business.
