Afghanistan's East Horizon deploys Tajik MA-60 into service

East Horizon Airlines (EA, Kabul) has now officially deployed its MA-60, EY-201, into service on flights throughout Afghanistan. The aircraft, on wet-lease from Tajik Air (7J, Dushanbe), is on a one-year contract.

It is to be recalled that following a series of incidents involving the Xian Aircraft Company (Xi'an Yanliang) turboprop last year, the Tajik Civil Aviation Department forbade the aircraft from operating within the confines of Tajikistan indefinitely.

Afghanistan's East Horizon acquires own ex-Alitalia MD-82

East Horizon Airlines (EA, Kabul) has returned its wet-leased MD-83, UR-CLY (cn 53188), to owner Bravo Air (BAY, Kiev Borispol), which has since sold the aircraft on to Iranian operator, Caspian Airlines (IV, Tehran Mehrabad).

To make up for the shortfall, according to Aerotransport, East Horizon has now acquired its first own MD-82, YA-EHA (msn 53222), formerly I-DATC with Alitalia (AZ, Rome Fiumicino). The twinjet is currently stored in Tupelo.

Tajik Air's sole MA-60 being leased to Afghanistan's East Horizon

Tajik Air (7J, Dushanbe) has leased its sole MA-60, EY-201, to Afghanistan's East Horizon Airlines (EA, Kabul) after Firouz Hamroev, the airline's director general, said the type would not be flown in Tajikistan for the foreseeable future. “We have decided that the aircraft will work in Afghanistan and a one-year contract has been concluded with Afghanistan’s East Horizon Airlines,” Ikrom Mavlonov, Tajik Air Deputy Director general for economic issues, told Central Asian Aero News. Afghanistan's East Horizon Airlines inaugurates Ghazni Airport

East Horizon Airlines (EA, Kabul) has become the first scheduled operator to serve Ghazni in the east of Afghanistan with the launch of twice weekly flights to Kabul on-board an An-24. The flight marks the inauguration of the airfield's new terminal which was recently upgraded as part of a USD7million project. The Afghan government has also earmarked funds to upgrade and lengthen runway 15/33 to allow for the use of larger aircraft.

Afghanistan's East Horizon begins leasing Bravo Air's MD83

Bravo Air (BAY, Kiev Borispol) has reportedly leased its ex-American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) MD-83, UR-CLY (msn 53188), to Afghan cargo and charter specialists, East Horizon Airlines (EA, Kabul). The aircraft was ferried from Tucson Int'l to Kabul on September 30. East Horizon currently also has a B737-300, A6-ESS (msn 25011), on wet-lease from Eastern SkyJets (EE, Dubai Int'l).
