Southwest considering more takeovers?

Southwest Airlines (WN, Dallas Love Field) may be considering an additional acquisition just eight months after it successfully completed its take over of AirTran Airways (FL, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson). Finland's Blue to offload B717 fleet to Volotea, Delta

Blue 1 (KF, Helsinki Vantaa) has secured sales agreements with Spanish budget operator Volotea (V7, Palma de Mallorca Son Sant Joan) for four of its outgoing B717-200s Flygtorget has reported.

"Demand for used machines is good," Michael Wångdahl, Blue 1's CEO said. "The first four have gone to Volotea in Spain and there will not be any problem in getting rid of the five we have left."

AirTran brand retired after last flight on December 28

AirTran Airways (FL, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson) has officially suspended operations following its last flight, FL1, from Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson to Tampa Int'l in the evening of Sunday, December 28. Southwest Airlines (WN, Dallas Love Field) has gradually taken over the majority of AirTran's network, its fleet of B737-700s and most of its staff as part of an integration process that has taken three years since the acquisition of the LCC by Southwest in 2011.
