Adria Airways (JP, Ljubljana) is set to take delivery of two CRJ-900ERs, msn 15283 and 15284, that were originally intended for Iraqi Airways (IA, Baghdad). Sources at Bombardier (BBA, Montréal Trudeau) reveal that the two jets will be delivered to the Slovenian national carrier in April and June as CRJ-900LRs with registrations S5-AAU and S5-AAV respectively.

It currently has four CRJ-900s in its fleet.

The CRJ-900s are to replace the airline's existing fleet of three CRJ-200s in line with Adria's new strategy of operating larger aircraft with fewer frequencies.

"We're making good progress with the sales negotiations," Ms Bratusek said. "There will be no delays. We will have concluded the sales by the end of the year." In the interests of cutting down on public spending, Ms Bratusek's government has made the partial and total privatization of parastatals a priority.

  • Read more 29JAN2014: Montenegro Airlines to be privatized this year
Montenegro Airlines (YM, Podgorica) is to be once more offered up for privatization the country’s Privatisation and Capital Investment Council has announced. According to EX-YU Aviation News, the airline's shareholding will be sold via a public tender. “We cannot specify at this point in time the pace in which the privatisation process will take place”, a statement read. Previous attempts to offload the loss-making airline from the national fiscus have met with failure. In 2009, a joint El Al Israel Airlines (LY, Tel Aviv Ben Gurion) and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development bid for control of the airline and Podgorica and Tivat airports failed when government balked at the offer. A later 2011 tender was met with no responses despite Arkia Israeli Airlines (IZ, Tel Aviv Ben Gurion), El Al and Etihad Airways (EY, Abu Dhabi Int'l) having all purchased tender forms. Turkish Airlines (TK, Istanbul Atatürk) was also linked to a potential take over though that too failed to materialize. Montenegro Airlines joins the likes of Croatia Airlines (OU, Zagreb) and Adria Airways (JP, Ljubljana) in looking for new investors capable of injecting fresh vitality and capital into them. Thus far, of the former Yugoslavian carriers, only Air Serbia (JU, Belgrade) has been fortunate enough to land a wealthy partner in the form of Etihad Airways (EY, Abu Dhabi Int'l).
