  • Read more 07APR2014: LAN Colombia retires the B737-700 from its fleet
LAN Colombia (4C, Bogotá) has completed the retirement of the B737-700 from its fleet with the recent return of EI-EEB (msn 29081), HK-4627 (msn 29078) and HK-4660 (msn 34296) to their lessor. The LAN Airlines (LA, Santiago de Chile Int'l) subsidiary continues to operate six A320-200s and six Dash 8-200s.

As previously reported by ch-aviation, Europe Airpost (5O, Paris CDG) is due to take delivery of two of the jets - EI-EEB and EI-EEV (msn 29080) - ahead of its first transatlantic services this summer.
  • Read more 01APR2014: Europe Airpost to add two B737-700s, retire B737-300 freighters
Europe Airpost (5O, Paris CDG) will induct two former LAN Colombia (4C, Bogotá) B737-700s, EI-EEB (msn 29081) and EI-EEV (msn 29080), into its fleet in the coming weeks in anticipation of its maiden transatlantic flights between France and Canada via Scotland in July. The carrier will also add two more B737-400(F)s later in the year.

At the same time, seven Boeing 737-300s are to leave the fleet - six B737-300(QC)s and one B737-300(F) - as part of plans to homogenize and streamline the airline's fleet.
  • Read more 01APR2014: US Airways, TAM Linhas Aéreas leave Star Alliance for Oneworld
TAM Linhas Aéreas (JJ, São Paulo Congonhas) and US Airways (US, Phoenix Sky Harbor) have officially left Star Alliance and joined Oneworld with effect from March 31. The transition is the biggest single-day expansion of the oneworld alliance since its launch 15 years ago.

LAN Airlines (LA, Santiago de Chile Int'l), TAM's partner in LATAM Airlines Group, has been a full member of oneworld since 2000 with all other LAN passenger airlines - LAN Argentina (4M, Buenos Aires Aeroparque), LAN Colombia (4C, Bogotá), LAN Ecuador (XL, Quito Int'l) and LAN Perú (LP, Lima) - joining the alliance as affiliate members since.

US Airways' regional affiliates, operating as US Airways Express, also transitioned to oneworld, following US Airways' recent merger with American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth).

The two carriers will collectively add almost 100 new destinations to the Oneworld network with TAM contributing almost 45 new cities and US Airways adding more than 50.

Oneworld will add another member on May 1 when SriLankan Airlines (UL, Colombo Int'l) joins the fold.

LAN Colombia (4C, Bogotá) has been awarded nearly 60% of the domestic Colombian routes recently relinquished by Copa Airlines (CM, Panamá City Tocumen Int'l). In an announcement at the recent 33rd Tourism Showcase in Anato, LAN Colombia's CEO Hernán Pasman said his airline would expand the frequency of flights to Cartagena de Indias, Cali, Santa Marta, Cúcuta and San Andrés in July of this year.

With the acquisition of these new frequencies, LAN says it will continue to grow and increase its presence in the Colombian market.

The Colombian civil aviation authority (Autoridad Aeronáutica de Colombia - Aerocivil) has warned however, that the launch of these new flights is contingent on each airport's infrastructure being up to scratch.

Aerocivil has yet to outline which other carriers secured the remaining 40% of Copa's slots.
  • Read more 22JAN2014: Air Berlin / LGW still eager to expand Dash 8-400 fleet in 2014
Air Berlin (AB, Berlin Tegel) has not buried its plans to expand the Dash 8-400 fleet operated by LGW - Luftfahrtgesellschaft Walter (HE, Dortmund) yet. “We are still planning to grow the fleet at a moderate speed in 2014” said Air Berlin CEO Wolfgang Prock-Schauer exclusively to ch-aviation on the sidelines of a recent press conference in Zurich celebrating the launch of Etihad Regional. Question marks on the fleet expansion plan appeared after a deal with SkyWork Airlines (SX, Berne) over two Dash 8-400 aircraft was put on hold after pre-delivery checks. Prock-Schauer however refused to give any information on the planned source of the new aircraft. According to other sources within the Air Berlin Group, the carrier is currently considering dry-leasing two ex-LAN Colombia (4C, Bogotá) or two ex-EuroLOT (K2, Warsaw Chopin) aircraft instead.
