Skywest ends EMB-120 operations; now an all-jet carrier

Skywest Airlines (USA) (OO, Salt Lake City) has transitioned to an all-jet operation with its last EMB-120-operated commercial flight on Tuesday, May 5. Research shows the type's last revenue flights, all under the United Express banner, were from Los Angeles Int'l to Fresno Yosemite, Palm Springs Int'l, San Diego Int'l, and Santa Maria, CA and from San Francisco, CA to Bakersfield and Fresno Yosemite.

Sun Valley, ID to temporarily close later this month

Horizon Air (QX, Seattle Tacoma Int'l) will suspend its flights to the Idahoan town of Sun Valley from April 26 to May 20 as the airfield undergoes its last major phase of a reconfiguration. Consequently, the airport's main runway 13/31 will be closed to traffic over that period.

US DOT awards Crescent City EAS contract to PenAir

PenAir (KS, Anchorage Ted Stevens) has been awarded an Essential Air Services contract (EAS) to serve Crescent City in California following a tender process which also involved submissions from Alaska Seaplanes (J5, Juneau Int'l) and SeaPort Airlines (K5, Portland Int'l, OR).
