Thai confirms plans to end A340, B747 freighter operations

Thai Airways International (TG, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi) will indeed end A340-600 and B747-400(F) operations later this month sources in the Thai capital inform ch-aviation.

The carrier's five-strong fleet of A340-600s is scheduled to be decommissioned on March 29 along with four A330-300s and two B747-400(F)s. The shortfall will be met with the arrival this summer of two B787-8s and two B777-300(ER)s.

Thai plans to complete A340-600 retirement by end of March

Thai Airways International (TG, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi) has removed the A340-600 from its scheduled network as of March 28. The aircraft are currently regularly used on the Thai national carrier's long-haul routes to Frankfurt Int'l and Zurich and regionally on some of its flights to Singapore Changi.

Starting March 29, Thai will only serve Frankfurt once daily with its A380-800 and replace the A340-600s used to Zurich on a daily basis by B777-300s.

Thai Airways to stave off job cuts until absolutely necessary

Thai Airways International (TG, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi) president Charamporn Jotikasthira says strict budgetary discipline coupled with stringent cost-cutting measures could defer impending staff redundancies.

Speaking to Thailand's Nation TV last week, Jotikasthira said Thai's two-year long restructuring programme would initially focus on reducing expenditure in less sensitive areas and that if any cuts were to be made, they would be done so on a voluntary basis.

Thai Airways International (TG, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi) will terminate its African operations in Janaury of next year Airline Route reports. The Thai carrier's final Bangkok Suvarnabhumi to Johannesburg O.R. Tambo service is tentatively scheduled for January 14, 2015.
