TAME Ecuador (Quito International) has been the first carrier to land at Quito International on February 20 on the day the new airport located 20 kilometres east of Ecuador's capital city has been opened replacing the city's old Quito Mariscal Sucre (Old) airport that has been closed the previous day. The first TAME flight to Quito originated at Guayaquil operating on the country's busy domestic route where AeroGal (Quito International), LAN Ecuador (Quito International) and TAME offer up to 33 daily services using A320 family aircraft. The new airport's longer runway will also allow long-haul services to be operated non-stop from Quito although both Iberia (IB, Madrid Barajas) and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (KL, Amsterdam Schiphol) plan to continue serving Quito and Guayaquil with triangle flights with Guayaquil being the second stop in Ecuador for the time being.
