LaMia (Porlamar) officially announced the planned launch of scheduled operations on Saturday, November 2 with a demonstration flight from Porlamar to Puerto Ordaz/Ciudad Guayana using one of its four ARJ-85s. It plans to launch in early 2014. According to Ricardo Albacete, the president of LaMia, the airline aims to promote inbound tourism with long-term plans to serve the Caribbean, Brazil, Colombia, Panama and Aruba in addition to Canaima, Merida Alberto Carnevalli, among other domestic destinations. It had originally planned to operate from Merida but now has changed plans to be operating out of Porlamar.
