Turkish Airlines (TK, Istanbul Airport) is not looking for a fight with Lufthansa (LH, Frankfurt International) chairman Hamdi Topçu has told an audience of expatriate Turks living in Germany. According to TodaysZaman, Topçu said his airline is instead "seeking to meet the transportation needs of everyone in Germany and not just Turks living there", adding that "the market is not expanding in Europe and operations of European carriers are not convenient." Lufthansa and its subsidiaries Austrian Airlines (OS, Vienna) and Swiss (LX, Zurich) recently terminated a longstanding code share agreement with the Turks citing their predatory incursion into smaller German airports. Responding to questions on the issue, Topçu said: “We are not after a conflict. They have made a unilateral decision, but we don't see it as a factor to fight over. We held a meeting with them and even though they did not take any steps back, we hope they will reverse the decision. It seems like the mid-level managers who are not able to defeat us in the field are trying to defeat us at the table, but I am sure that the high-ranking managers will see this.”
