Africa World Airlines (AW, Accra) has gone regional with the launch of twice daily Accra to Lagos flights on December 9. Speaking to journalists on arrival at Lagos Murtala Mohammed International Airport, CEO Togbe Afede XIV, said his airline’s main goal was to connect Africa through a hub-and-spoke model using Accra as the centre. “There is still a lot of need on the route. We have the financial capacity, provided by our financial partners like CADFUND and technical expertise from Hainan Airlines (HU, Haikou), to withstand any competition” he told Ghana Business News. While it at present operates a fleet of three E145s, AWA is also mulling Brazil flights ahead of next year's FIFA World Cup.
