Jetstar Japan (GK, Tokyo Narita) has been forced to ground "at least" four new A320-200s according to the Sydney Morning Herald as Japanese authorities continue to draw out a decision on whether to allow the budget airline to set up a second base in Osaka Kansai. ch-aviation research shows that all but one of its 18 A320-200s are actually operational at this point but one new A320-200 (JA19JJ, cn 5877) has been parked at Bordeaux Mérignac following delivery and two other A320-200s originally scheduled to join Jetstar Japan's fleet have now been delivered to Vueling Airlines (VY, Barcelona El Prat) (cn 5885 and cn 5940). The Kansai hub was originally planned to open on July 18, 2013, but was postponed due to issues in improving maintenance procedures following a warning from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. In early December 2013, parent Qantas (QF, Sydney Kingsford Smith) was also forced to store three new A320-200 (sl)s destined for startup Jetstar Hong Kong (Hong Kong International) owing to difficulties in securing the requisite permits for the airline.
