Ethiopian Airlines (ET, Addis Ababa International) is planning to launch an Addis Ababa International to Los Angeles International via Dublin International flight in 2015 CEO Tewolde Gebremariam has revealed. Speaking to Travel Extra on the sidelines of the 16th Annual Airfinance Conference in Dublin, Mr Tewolde said that subject to regulatory approval, the route could go live as early as January next year. Ethiopian is believed to have chosen Dublin given the presence of US customs and immigration pre-clearance facilities at the airport. While no mention of any Fifth Freedom rights has been made, any move to secure Dublin to Los Angeles traffic rights would likely encounter stiff resistance from Aer Lingus (EI, Dublin International) which three years ago opposed an Air India (AI, Delhi International) initiative to use Dublin as its new European hub on its one-stop flights between India and the US.
