Republic Airlines (Indianapolis International) subsidiary Chautauqua Airlines (Indianapolis International) will no longer be extending the leases on twenty-seven of forty-one of its Embraer (EMB, São José dos Campos Professor Urbano Ernesto Stumpf) Regional Jets owing to what it termed as a "significant reduction in qualified pilots who meet the congressionally-mandated 1'500-hour pilot experience rule and the airline's rigorous qualification standards." Chautauqua operates 15 E140s as American Connection for American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) and has 59 E145s operating for Delta Air Lines (DL, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson) and United Airlines (UA, Chicago O'Hare) as Delta Connection and United Express. With the associated loss in capacity, Republic says its pre-tax income for 2014 will be affected by between USD18 and 22million with 750 jobs to be lost. ExpressJet Airlines (Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson) and Great Lakes Airlines (Cheyenne) have both reported a similar impact on their respective operations. New U.S. Federal Aviation Administration regulations that came into effect last year now require U.S. pilots to have a minimum 1,500 hours of flight time to operate commercial jets or cargo planes, up from the 250 hours previously required for co-pilots.
