Avianca Brasil (São Paulo Congonhas) is studying proposals from Embraer (EMB, São José dos Campos Professor Urbano Ernesto Stumpf), Bombardier Aerospace (BBA, Montréal Trudeau), Sukhoi Civil Aircraft (Zhukovsky), and Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation (Nagoya Chubu) as it prepares to issue an order for up to fifty regional jets to replace its outgoing A318-100s. In an interview with the Montreal Gazette, CEO José Efromovich said the size of the order would depend on the Brazilian government's regional aviation program which seeks to stimulate growth in underserved domestic markets through the creation of new carriers. “We could start a regional subsidiary, or create a whole new company, or even do a deal with an existing airline for the regional program,” Efromovich said. “We are open to all options.” Among the aircraft that have shown the strongest promise Mr Efromovich said, is the Embraer E2 Regional Jet due for delivery starting in 2018. The CEO previously disclosed ongoing plans to acquire replacements for the airline's Fokker 100s from Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac).
